Cats four months or older must be vaccinated against rabies (Code Sec. 4-35, FS 828.30). Lake County runs a Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return program for community (feral) cats under Article IV, and impounded healthy free-roaming cats may be sterilized, eartipped, vaccinated, and returned.
Under Sec. 4-35 and FS 828.30, any cat four months of age or older must be vaccinated against rabies at all times, with proof shown on request. For unowned free-roaming cats, Lake County's TNVR program (Sec. 4-81-4-83) lets an impounded healthy cat be sterilized, eartipped, vaccinated against rabies, and returned to where it was trapped. Community-cat colonies must keep set buffers from schools, playgrounds, parks (250 ft) and conservation land (750 ft). Nuisance and at-large rules (Sec. 4-27) apply to owned cats.
A rabies-vaccination violation carries a recommended $150 first-offense fine, $500 for repeats within 5 years (Sec. 4-35).
