Weed Ordinances: Anza vs Temecula

Riverside County Ordinance 695 authorizes the Fire Department to declare weeds and dry vegetation a public nuisance and order abatement. Ordinance 725 treats overgrown vegetation that harbors rodents or impairs neighboring properties as a general nuisance. Invasive weeds (yellow star thistle, arundo) are subject to Ag Commissioner quarantine and abatement.

Temecula enforces weed and vegetation abatement through Code Enforcement and the Riverside County Fire Department. Properties must be cleared of dry weeds, brush, and combustible vegetation each year before fire season, with 100 feet of defensible space required around structures in hillside and wildland-urban interface zones.
