Clarence FAQ

Does Erie County have a county-wide street parking ordinance?

No. Erie County does not regulate parking on public streets. Each town, village, or city within Erie County (Buffalo, Amherst, Cheektowaga, Clarence, Hamburg, Orchard Park, Tonawanda, etc.) sets its own street-parking rules through its local code. The only county-level parking restrictions are the Park Rules that apply on roads within Erie County parks.

Where can I park inside an Erie County park?

You may park on designated park roads but no more than 5 feet off the road, and never where prohibited by sign. Driving or parking off the roadway is forbidden. At campsites, only 2 vehicles per site are allowed — all others must use the visitor parking area.

Who enforces parking inside Erie County parks?

The Erie County Sheriff's Office Park Patrol and Parks, Recreation & Forestry staff enforce the Park Rules. Violations can result in citations, towing at the owner's expense, and ejection from the park.

Are there winter parking bans on Erie County roads?

Winter parking bans are imposed by individual towns under their own local laws — Erie County has not enacted a county-wide winter ban. For example, the Town of Clarence prohibits parking on any Town or County roads from November 1 to April 30 between 1:00 AM and 7:00 AM under its Local Law No. 2. Check your town's code for the rule that applies to you.
