Cape Coral FAQ

Can I use a propane grill on my Cape Coral condo balcony?

No. The Florida Fire Prevention Code and NFPA 1 prohibit propane and charcoal grills on any balcony of an apartment or condominium. Only a listed electric tabletop grill under 200 square inches of cooking surface is allowed. The 20-pound propane tank itself also cannot be stored above the first floor.

Can I keep a 20-lb propane tank in my single-family garage?

It is strongly discouraged and may violate FFPC if stored near ignition sources or inside a habitable space. Propane cylinders should be stored outdoors in an upright position, in a well-ventilated location, away from heat sources and out of direct sun. Detached, vented sheds are acceptable; attached garages with water heaters or furnaces are not.

Fort Myers FAQ

Can I grill during a Lee County burn ban?

Yes. The burn ban excludes food grills - gas and charcoal cooking grills may be used even when open burning and campfires are prohibited.

Can I use a propane grill on my apartment balcony?

Usually not. The Florida Fire Prevention Code restricts open-flame and LP-gas grills on balconies of multifamily buildings unless the building is fully sprinklered. Check with your fire marshal and landlord.
