Fort Myers FAQ

Can I park my motorhome, fifth-wheel, or large boat trailer at my Fort Myers home?

Yes, but only in the side or rear yard. The City of Fort Myers Community Development Department allows boats, trailers, and recreational vehicles to be parked in the side or rear yards of a residential lot if they are not classified as abandoned. The unit must have a current license plate or registration, be operational and roadworthy, and sit on an improved surface (concrete, asphalt, pavers, or other approved material) - not on the lawn or in the city right-of-way. Storage in the front yard or on the front-yard driveway as long-term storage is not allowed.

What about a big box truck or semi-tractor in my Fort Myers neighborhood?

Not allowed in residential areas. The City of Fort Myers Common Code Violations standard prohibits commercial vehicles of 1.5 tons or more (roughly 3,000 pounds of rated capacity and up) from being parked or stored in residential areas. That excludes semi-tractors with or without trailers, dump trucks, large box trucks, large flatbed trailers, and similar heavy equipment. Smaller work vehicles - vans, half-ton and three-quarter-ton pickups - are permitted at the residence under the same rules as a passenger car. Report violations to Code Enforcement at 239-321-7940.
