Carson FAQ

Can I park my RV or boat trailer in front of my Carson home overnight?

Not without a permit. Carson Ordinance No. 18-1815 restricts oversized vehicles — defined as anything exceeding 20 ft long, 80 in wide, or 85 in tall — on public streets, and the Parking Enforcement Division offers an oversized vehicle permit for short-term loading/unloading. Without that permit, a vehicle citation and/or tow is possible. Contact Parking Enforcement at (310) 952-1786.

Does my pickup truck count as an oversized vehicle?

Pickup trucks under 25 feet in length are explicitly excluded from Carson's oversized vehicle definition, per the City's Parking Enforcement page. A standard half-ton or three-quarter-ton pickup is normally well under that length, so day-to-day on-street parking is allowed where curb signage permits.

Can I keep my RV on my own driveway in Carson?

RV storage on private residential property is governed by the Carson Zoning Code (Carson Municipal Code Article IX, Chapter 1, eCode360). It typically must be on a paved surface, off required front-yard setbacks, and screened where required. The on-street ordinance (No. 18-1815) is separate from the zoning rules for on-lot storage.

El Monte FAQ

Can I park my RV in my front yard in El Monte?

Only on an approved paved driveway or other approved paved area in the front or street side yard, and only one RV. Parking on dirt, grass, or gravel in the front yard is prohibited by EMMC §17.08.060.

How long can I leave my boat or RV on the street?

California Vehicle Code §22651(k) authorizes El Monte to tow any vehicle left on a public street for 72 or more consecutive hours. The RV must also be currently registered and operable.

Does the RV have to be registered to my address?

Yes. EMMC §17.08.060 requires the recreational vehicle to be registered to the location where it is stored or parked and to be in operable condition.
