Do I need a permit for a pool in Islip?
Yes. Town Code Section 68-386A makes it unlawful to construct, install, use or maintain any swimming pool without first obtaining a permit from the Building Division of the Department of Planning and Development.
Does the contractor or the homeowner pull the permit?
Either may obtain it, but Section 68-386B prohibits any installer from building a pool without first getting a copy of the building permit, which must be displayed on site at all times work is being performed.
What are the setback requirements?
Town Code Section 68-386D requires minimum side and rear setbacks of 10 feet in most districts, 14 feet in Residence A, 18 feet in Residence AAA/AA, and 25 feet in a Residence BAA District, measured from the pool edge.
