The City of Wyoming, MI does NOT operate a city-run recycling program. Kent County drop-offs accept: paper, cardboard, clear and colored glass, plastic bottles and containers, cartons, metal cans, and foil. NOT accepted: plastic bags, film plastic, bubble wrap, air pillows, produce/newspaper bags. Michigan state law floor is NREPA Part 115 (MCL 324.11501) - Michigan does NOT mandate municipal curbside recycling by population.

Kentwood FAQ
Can I bag grass clippings in regular trash in Michigan?
No. Yard waste cannot go to standard landfills. Haulers must separate it for composting. Most curbside programs require paper bags or marked carts in season.
Are there exceptions to the yard waste ban?
Yes. Landfills with gas-to-energy systems may accept yard waste with DEGLE approval, and diseased plant material can be landfilled to prevent spread of pests.
Wyoming FAQ
Is recycling mandatory in Wyoming, MI?
No. Michigan state law (NREPA Part 115, MCL 324.11501 et seq.) does not impose a population-based curbside recycling mandate the way Pennsylvania Act 101 does, and the City of Wyoming has not enacted a local recycling-mandate ordinance. Recycling is either offered as part of your service contract with your licensed hauler (Advanced Disposal, Arrowaste, Kamps Wood Shavings & Refuse Disposal Inc., Republic Services, or Waste Management) or done by drop-off at Kent County's free recycling centers in Grand Rapids (977 Wealthy SW) or Rockford. Michigan EGLE's 2022 Solid Waste Plan targets 45% diversion by 2030, but participation remains voluntary at the resident level.
What can I recycle for free in Wyoming, MI?
Take recyclables to Kent County's free drop-off centers - the Grand Rapids Recycling & Education Center (977 Wealthy Street SW) or the Rockford Recycling & Waste Center. Both accept: paper, flattened cardboard, clear and colored glass, plastic bottles and containers, cartons, aluminum and steel cans, and foil. NOT accepted at any Kent County drop-off: plastic bags, newspaper bags, produce bags, air pillows, bubble wrap, packaging and other flexible film plastic - return those to grocery-store film-bag drop-off bins instead. The South Kent Recycling & Waste Center accepts cardboard only. See reimaginetrash.org for the current Household Waste Guide.
Why was my Wyoming, MI recycling cart left unemptied?
Your licensed hauler (Advanced Disposal, Arrowaste, Kamps, Republic Services, or Waste Management) tag-and-skips contaminated loads - if your cart contains bagged recyclables (everything in plastic bags), film plastic, food waste, electronics, or other non-accepted items, the driver leaves a tag and does not empty the cart. Remove the contamination and set the cart out for your next scheduled collection. Repeated contamination can trigger cart removal under your hauler's service contract. Recycling contamination is NOT a City code violation, but illegal dumping if items scatter into the street IS a violation under Chapter 30.
