Can my Madison STR guests have parties?

Yes. As the Tourist Rooming House licensee, you are responsible for guest conduct and repeated violations can cost your license.

How loud can my Sun Prairie Airbnb guests be at night?

Sun Prairie Section 8.32.030(A)(1) caps stationary noise in residential zones at 50 dB at the property line between the nighttime hours, and Section 8.32.020(B) makes any radio, phonograph or similar device plainly audible at the property line between ten p.m. and seven a.m. prima facie evidence of a violation. The general rule in Section 8.32.010 also prohibits any loud and unnecessary noise at any hour.

Does Sun Prairie have an STR-specific noise rule?

No. The City of Sun Prairie's FAQ states the city does not currently have a short-term rental use or license defined by city ordinance. STR hosts and guests are subject to Chapter 8.32 of the Municipal Code on the same terms as any other resident. Wisconsin Statute 66.1014 preserves the city's authority to enforce these noise rules even though it limits how restrictively the rental itself can be regulated.
