A yard-sale permit from the city clerk is required before selling. Peabody and Lawrence both issue residential permits, and the clerk will not grant more than the yearly cap of sale days per address.
Essex County caps how often you can hold a yard sale. Peabody allows two sale days a year per address; Lawrence allows up to four one-day sales, no more than two running consecutively.
Yard sales run during daytime hours only, dawn to dusk, and signs must come down when the sale ends. Sales cannot spill into early morning or nighttime, and advertising on public poles is prohibited.
