Fairfield County has no operational county government (abolished 1960). Fireworks are regulated statewide under Conn. Gen. Stat. Sec. 29-356 and Sec. 29-357. Connecticut prohibits virtually all consumer fireworks. Only sparklers and fountains containing no more than 100 grams of pyrotechnic mixture per item, that are nonexplosive and nonaerial, are legal for persons 16 or older. Public displays require a permit from the local fire marshal under Sec. 29-357(c) and a state-certified pyrotechnic operator under Sec. 29-356a.
