3 rules for unincorporated Saginaw County, Michigan.
Verified from official government sources
No Saginaw County city sets a trunk-diameter permit for removing a private-yard tree. Permits and authorization apply to the public street and park trees the cities own, and Frankenmuth requires a licensed-arborist permit to work on those public trees.
Frankenmuth, MI Code sec. 4.109
It shall be unlawful for any person or firm to engage in the business or occupation of pruning, treating, or removing street or park trees within the City without first applying for and procuring a tree permit from the Department of Public Works Superintendent or his/her designee.
Saginaw County has no heritage- or landmark-tree ordinance protecting big old trees on private lots. Frankenmuth's tree code calls all city trees valuable public assets and shields street and park trees, but private specimens carry no special legal status.
Frankenmuth, MI Code sec. 4.91
All street trees, park trees and privately owned trees are valuable assets to the residents of the City.
A Saginaw County homeowner who removes a private-yard tree owes no replacement. Replacement and planting duties ride on the public street and park trees the cities manage themselves, and on landscaping conditions imposed at development site-plan review.
Frankenmuth, MI Code sec. 4.99
Each residential lot in the City of Frankenmuth is entitled to at least one (1) street tree.
