Commercial drone operations in Nassau County require FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate plus LAANC authorization for nearly all airspace. JFK and LaGuardia Class B cover most of the county; Republic Airport Class D affects Farmingdale area.
Part 107 certified pilots must maintain visual line of sight, fly under 400 feet AGL, and stay clear of controlled airspace without authorization. Because Nassau County is blanketed by JFK and LGA Class B airspace at varying ceilings (often 500-2,000 feet over much of the county), commercial operators must use LAANC or submit FAA DroneZone waiver requests. Republic Airport (FRG) Class D requires separate authorization. Night operations are permitted under Part 107 with anti-collision lighting. Operations over people require Category 1-4 compliance. Nassau County Police, Suffolk County Police, and NYPD all operate counter-UAS capabilities. Local town and village park-use permits required for takeoff/landing on municipal property.
FAA civil penalties up to 27,500 per violation; criminal up to 250,000 and 3 years imprisonment for dangerous operation under 49 USC 46307. State trespass or privacy claims remain available for intrusive operations.
