Aurora has not adopted a city-specific minimum wage and follows Colorado's statewide rate of 14.81 dollars per hour, which is indexed for inflation, with local authority allowed under CRS 8-6-101.5 since 2019.
Colorado law preempted local minimum wages until 2019 when HB19-1210 amended CRS 8-6-101.5 to allow cities and counties to set local minimum wages above the state floor. Aurora has not exercised that authority and follows the Colorado state minimum wage of 14.81 dollars per hour, which is adjusted annually for inflation by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. Tipped employees follow the state tip credit. Denver adopted a higher local rate, but Aurora has declined despite metro-area wage pressure. Federal Fair Labor Standards Act remains the floor. Buckley Space Force Base contractors may face additional federal wage rules under the Service Contract Act.
Paying below 14.81 dollars per hour, misclassifying employees as independent contractors, or violating tipped-wage rules can result in CDLE wage claims, back-pay liability, and civil penalties.
