Santa Ana Public Works has piloted reflective cool-pavement coatings on selected residential streets to lower surface temperatures, partnering with regional agencies on monitoring and expansion decisions.
Cool-pavement projects apply light-colored or reflective sealants on asphalt to reduce solar absorption and surface heat. Santa Ana has selected pilot blocks based on heat exposure, demographic equity, and resurfacing schedules. Public Works coordinates with the Orange County Council of Governments and academic partners to monitor temperature, durability, and stormwater impacts. Residents on pilot streets receive notice before application, and rules on parking removal during curing follow standard street-work protocols.
No resident violations. Construction-area parking citations apply during application per posted temporary signs.
