For a standard single-family lot, no fence is required. The county Zoning Ordinance does impose fencing in specific screening and buffering situations. For example, any portion of a swimming pool and its decking that extends into a side yard must be screened by a 6-foot wall, fence, berm, or evergreen material (or combination) at least 6 feet above grade. Vehicle storage areas and buffers between different districts likewise require opaque wall/fence or evergreen screening. Where chickens are kept, the enclosure area must be fenced. These are use-specific requirements, not a general fence mandate.
Failing to install a required screening fence or buffer violates the Zoning Ordinance, a misdemeanor under Sec. 13:3 punished in magistrate's court, with each day a separate offense.
