Prince George's County's Zoning Ordinance requires fences to stay outside the public right-of-way, keep the finished side out, use uniform style per lot side, and avoid a 25-foot sight triangle at intersections. Fences over 4 feet also need a DPIE building permit.
Sections 27-6601 through 27-6608 govern fence and wall construction countywide. Fences must be located outside the public right-of-way (27-6602), the more finished side must face outward (27-6606), and all segments along a single lot side must be uniform in style, materials, and color. Section 27-6602(d) prohibits fences within the sight triangle formed by street lines and points 25 feet from an intersection. Fences must comply with the Building Code (27-6607). A DPIE permit is required for fences over 4 feet, and support posts and rails must face the inside of the lot.
Fences in the right-of-way, in the sight triangle, with the unfinished side out, or built over 4 feet without a permit can be cited and required to be corrected or removed.
