Sec. 42-10 allows fires only in stoves, grills, fireplaces, or purpose-built fire pits. The Lynn Haven Fire Department requires that the fire be continuously attended and fully extinguished before abandonment.
A backyard fire pit is acceptable under Lynn Haven Code Sec. 42-10 because it is a 'place provided for such purpose,' but loose-debris ground fires are not. The Lynn Haven Fire Department (817 Ohio Ave, dispatch 850-265-2121) confirms in its public FAQ that any allowable fire 'must be attended continuously' and 'completely extinguished' when the user leaves. During a Bay County burn ban (issued periodically by the Bay County Emergency Management division during drought), even contained recreational fires can be suspended. Propane and natural-gas fire features are not affected.
Unattended or non-extinguished fires can trigger a Sec. 1-7 citation (up to $500) plus civil cost-recovery by the Fire Department for any suppression response.
