Unincorporated Lake County, Indiana bars parties or gatherings between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. that give rise to noise plainly audible across property boundaries (Code Β§ 93.02(E)). Outdoor amplified music at any hour must also stay under the 55 dBA residential boundary limit and not be plainly audible next door.
For outdoor gatherings and backyard music, two Lake County rules combine. Section 93.02(E) makes participation in any party or gathering between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. unlawful when it produces noise plainly audible across property boundaries or through common building partitions. Section 93.02(A) applies at any hour to amplified devices that are plainly audible across boundaries, and Β§ 93.03 caps boundary noise at 55 dBA at all times in residential and commercial zones. There is no permit process in Chapter 93 for outdoor events; the county relies on these audibility and decibel standards. This governs unincorporated Lake County; cities and towns handle their own event and outdoor-music rules.
Late-night gatherings violating Β§ 93.02(E), or outdoor amplified sound breaching Β§ 93.02(A)/Β§ 93.03, are punished under the general penalty Β§ 10.99, enforced by the Lake County Police Department through Lake Superior Court, County Division.
