Outdoor music at a home or event in Prince William County must not be audible 50 feet or more from the property boundary (§ 14-5(6)) and must stay within the § 14-4 decibel limits (60 dBA day / 55 night residential). Loud human noise is banned 10 p.m.-6 a.m.
There is no separate outdoor-music section, so backyard bands, DJs and speakers are governed by the general prohibitions. Section 14-5(6) bars any sound production device audible 50 feet or more from the property boundary or through walls shared with another residence. The § 14-4 decibel caps (60 dBA daytime, 55 dBA nighttime at a residential line) also apply, and human shouting, singing or yelling audible across property lines is prohibited between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. under § 14-5(7). County-, state- or federally sponsored events are exempt.
A first violation is a Class 4 misdemeanor; a repeat within 365 days is a Class 3 misdemeanor. A civil penalty of up to $250 (first) or $500 (second) may be imposed in lieu.
