City of Savannah Β§9-2036(b) allows certain city-authorized activities to use sound equipment producing sound not exceeding 90 dBA measured 50 feet from the equipment. Covered activities include public health and safety purposes; fairs and carnivals; parades, processions, and festivities; outdoor concerts and theatrical performances; outdoor neighborhood functions such as lawn and pool parties and street dances; civic and religious celebrations; and recreational and athletic activities. Where the receiving land is residential, the equipment may be used only between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. A variance permit may be granted by the city manager for temporary activities that cannot otherwise comply.
Operating without authorization or over 90 dBA/outside hours is a misdemeanor under Β§9-2041.
