Outdoor music must stay under 70 dB at a neighbor's property line during the day and 60 dB overnight. Parades, carnivals, and public social events between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. are exempt from the county decibel limits.
Live or recorded outdoor music is subject to the same limits as any other sound under Sec. 15-102: 70 dB at the property line from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and 60 dB from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. However, Sec. 15-102(b) exempts parades, carnivals, and public social events that occur between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m., so daytime community events are not restricted by the decibel caps. After 10 p.m., outdoor music at a residence must fall within the 60 dB nighttime limit. Businesses that allow on-site alcohol consumption are specifically not exempt, so outdoor music at bars must comply. Cities within the county may have separate special-event or amplified-sound permit rules.
Outdoor music exceeding the limits (outside exempt events) is a misdemeanor within magistrate's court jurisdiction; each day is a separate offense (Sec. 15-105).
