Under Martin County Code Ch. 115 (Motor Vehicles and Traffic), no person may leave a salvage, junked, or abandoned vehicle on any road, street, alley, highway, or public easement in unincorporated Martin County, and no property owner may allow such a vehicle to remain on private property longer than 5 days outside an area zoned for such storage.
Martin County Code Ch. 115 prohibits abandoned vehicles on public rights-of-way and limits the time such vehicles may remain on private property to 5 days unless the property is zoned or approved for vehicle storage. Code Enforcement red-tags vehicles determined to be abandoned, salvage, or junked on a county road or public easement. The owner is given notice and an opportunity to remove the vehicle before towing. The county follows Fla. Stat. 715.05 and 705.103 procedures for disposal and lien.
Code Enforcement may tow vehicles after the red-tag notice period; owners are responsible for tow and storage fees. Continuing private-property violations may result in code enforcement liens with daily fines under Fla. Stat. 162.09.
