The Lake County Unified Development Ordinance sets no curb-color or curb-painting rules for residents. Colored curb markings (red no-parking, yellow loading, etc.) on public streets are established and enforced by individual cities and towns and by Indiana traffic law β the county sets no such rule.
Curb-painting and colored-curb parking restrictions are a municipal traffic-control matter. The county UDO governs private-development parking design β stall size, striping of off-street lots, driveway aprons β but does not create resident curb-color rules or authorize residents to paint public curbs. On county-maintained roads, the Lake County Highway Department controls signage and markings; inside cities and towns (Crown Point, Gary, Hammond, Merrillville, etc.), the municipal traffic code and public-works department control curb markings. Painting or obscuring official markings would fall under municipal traffic ordinances and Indiana Code Title 9, not the county zoning ordinance.
Enforcement of curb-marking and no-parking-zone violations is handled by your city/town or the county highway authority under municipal traffic codes and IC Title 9 β not by the UDO.
