Heavy and oversized vehicles face the tightest limits: commercial vehicles are banned from residence-district streets, and vehicles over 10,100 pounds cannot be stored on residential lots. RVs and motor homes can be restricted from designated streets.
Prince William County reaches oversized vehicles through several rules. On public streets, commercial vehicles, defined broadly to include heavy trucks, tractor-trailers, dump trucks, concrete mixers, and heavy construction equipment, are prohibited in residence districts (13-327). For storage, County zoning bars keeping commercial vehicles weighing 10,100 pounds or more on residential properties, public parking lots, or agricultural lots under 10 acres. Oversized recreational vehicles, motor homes, camping trailers, boats, and watercraft can be prohibited from designated public streets under 13-320.1 (enabled by VA Code 46.2-1222.1). Combined, these keep large vehicles off residential streets and yards.
Oversized or heavy vehicles in violation may be cited as zoning or Chapter 13 violations and towed at the owner's expense.
