Collier County requires a permit for garage sales, lawn sales and similar temporary sales at private homes and residentially zoned institutions in the unincorporated county. The permit is issued at no cost by Code Enforcement and is valid for two consecutive days.
Under Land Development Code section 5.04.05.C (Temporary Events), a permit is required for garage sales, lawn sales and other similar temporary sales held at private homes, churches and places of worship, community centers, or other nonprofit residentially zoned institutions. Collier County Code Enforcement issues the garage-sale permit at no charge, valid for the two consecutive days shown on the permit. Up to two temporary garage-sale signs may be placed on the property where the sale is held under LDC 5.04.06 (Temporary Signs). City residents (Naples, Marco Island) follow their own city rules.
Holding a garage sale without a permit, or exceeding the permitted days, is a Land Development Code violation enforced by Code Enforcement, which issues a corrective notice and may refer unresolved cases to the Special Magistrate. Apply through Collier County
