Under LDC 4.10.04.D.6, 'temporary decorations accessory to the authorized land use and customarily associated with a short-term event, such as a holiday, garage and yard sales, estate sales, school or church activities' are exempt from county sign permits. On a single-family or duplex parcel these display during the event within the parcel-specific allowance of two freestanding signs per dwelling unit, each up to 6 square feet and 6 feet high (LDC 4.10.04.E.1). Signs stuck in the public right-of-way or on utility poles, trees, or fences are prohibited snipe signs under LDC 4.10.03.F and are removed by code enforcement. Signs must not obstruct intersection sight lines. Cities set their own rules.
Off-site garage-sale signs in the county right-of-way or on poles/trees are unauthorized signs, removed and disposed of by code enforcement; sight-obstructing signs violate LDC 4.10.03.
