Anchorage prohibits plastic bags under one mil thickness at retail checkout, with exemptions for bulk produce, meat, and pharmacy bags. Wasilla, Soldotna, Homer, Cordova, Bethel, Kodiak, and Palmer have adopted similar measures. Retailers should track local rules where they operate.

Local violations typically carry per-bag civil fines ranging from $50 to several hundred dollars depending on jurisdiction.
