Connecticut Has No Statewide Plastic Straw Ban

Connecticut state law does not prohibit single-use plastic straws or stirrers. Food service establishments, including restaurants, cafes, and convenience stores, may legally provide plastic straws to customers under existing state regulations. The General Assembly has considered straw-on-request legislation requiring customers to ask for straws rather than receive them automatically, but no statewide mandate has been enacted. Some Connecticut municipalities have adopted local straw-on-request ordinances or restrictions on plastic straws under home rule powers.

No state straw violations exist; municipalities with local straw ordinances enforce penalties through their own enforcement mechanisms.
