Idaho Vehicle Carry Permitless For Adults 18+

Under Idaho Code 18-3302, Idaho residents 18 years of age or older who are not prohibited from possessing firearms may transport loaded, concealed handguns in motor vehicles without a concealed weapons license. The state's permitless carry framework extends inside city limits for residents and outside city limits for any qualified adult. Nonresidents must hold a valid concealed weapons permit to carry concealed handguns inside city limits, including in vehicles parked or traveling within municipalities. Long guns transported in vehicles are not subject to concealment licensing. Idaho Code 18-3302J preempts local government attempts to restrict transportation, storage, or carry of firearms in vehicles, voiding city or county rules that exceed state law. Carry remains prohibited in courthouse parking, secure school zones, and federal facility lots.

Unlawful concealed handgun carry in a vehicle by a nonresident without a permit, or by a prohibited person, is a misdemeanor punishable by fines and possible jail under Idaho Code 18-3302.
