Idaho Commercial Vehicle Weight and Size Limits

Idaho Code section 49-1001 establishes maximum allowable gross loads: 20,000 pounds per single axle, 10,000 pounds per single wheel, and 105,500 pounds maximum gross vehicle weight on state highways (80,000 pounds on federal interstate highways unless permitted under section 49-1004). The Idaho Transportation Department enforces dimensional and weight limits statewide. Local governments may post lower weight limits on local roads or bridges to protect infrastructure but cannot authorize loads exceeding state maximums. Commercial parking on residential streets is generally regulated locally, but the underlying vehicle classifications and weight categories follow statewide definitions in Idaho Code 49-123.

Overweight violations carry fines based on excess weight. Operating outside allowable limits without a permit is a misdemeanor under Idaho Code 49-1013.
