Kansas Vehicle Firearm Carry Law

Under K.S.A. 21-6302 and the Personal and Family Protection Act, Kansas allows lawful adults age 21 or older to transport firearms in personal vehicles, including loaded and concealed handguns, without a permit. Long guns may also be transported, generally without restriction for lawful purposes. K.S.A. 12-16,124 preempts cities and counties from imposing stricter rules on firearms transportation in vehicles, ensuring uniform statewide treatment. Restrictions still apply for prohibited persons, posted secure facilities, and certain federal locations such as schools and federal buildings.

Unlawful carry by a prohibited person or in a posted restricted area may be charged as a misdemeanor or felony under state law.
