Louisiana Sanctuary City Prohibition Statute

La. R.S. 13:5305 bars any state or local governmental entity, official, or law enforcement agency from adopting policies that limit or restrict cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. Local jurisdictions may not prohibit officers from inquiring about immigration status, sharing information with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or honoring detainer requests. The statute creates a private right of action allowing individuals to sue noncompliant entities, and the Attorney General may seek injunctive relief. Violations can result in loss of state funding for offending political subdivisions.
