Louisiana Public Pool Safety Standards Apply Statewide

Under La. R.S. 40:4 and Louisiana Administrative Code Title 51, Part XXIV, all public swimming pools, spas, and water recreation facilities must comply with state Department of Health regulations. Pools must have certified pool operators, daily water testing logs, anti-entrapment drain covers compliant with the federal Virginia Graeme Baker Act, depth markings, and required safety equipment including life rings and reach poles. Permits and annual inspections are required. The Louisiana Pool Safety Act federal-conforming requirements apply to all public-access pools regardless of municipal regulations. Hotel, apartment, condo, and HOA pools fall under public pool definitions.

Operating without permit: fines up to $500 daily, closure orders. Failure to maintain anti-entrapment compliance: immediate closure plus penalties.
