Michigan Public Swimming Pool Act Safety Requirements

MCL 333.12521 through 333.12532 govern public swimming pools, including hotels, apartments, schools, and clubs. Pool operators must obtain annual licenses, follow water chemistry standards (free chlorine, pH, turbidity), maintain main drain anti-entrapment covers under the Virginia Graeme Baker Act, and post safety signage. Lifeguard requirements depend on pool type and bather load. The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) inspects facilities. Private residential pools are not regulated under Part 125 but must meet building code barrier rules. State rules preempt weaker local public-pool standards.
