New Hampshire Vehicle Firearm Carry Rules

New Hampshire is a permitless carry state, so any adult who may legally possess a firearm may keep a loaded pistol or revolver in a private vehicle, openly or concealed, without a license. RSA 159:4 historically required a license for concealed carry of a loaded pistol on or about the person or in a vehicle, but 2017 amendments removed that licensing requirement. Long guns may be transported loaded in a private passenger vehicle subject to hunting and OHRV rules. RSA 159:26 preempts municipalities from imposing extra restrictions on transportation, storage, or carry of firearms in motor vehicles. Federal Gun-Free School Zones Act and posted private property restrictions still apply when traveling.

Carrying while a prohibited person under RSA 159:3 is a class B felony; vehicle carry into a school zone or court can trigger separate state and federal charges.
