Rhode Island Wildlife Feeding and Baiting Restrictions

Under R.I. Gen. Laws Title 20 (Fish and Wildlife) and DEM regulations, the state prohibits feeding deer to slow chronic wasting disease risk and reduce vehicle collisions. DEM rules also restrict baiting for hunting purposes and prohibit feeding that creates public nuisance or wildlife conflict. Feeding of bears (when present) is discouraged as bears are protected species. Migratory waterfowl feeding is regulated under federal and state law. Property owners attracting nuisance wildlife may be required to cease feeding. Local ordinances may add restrictions on feeding deer, geese, and other species.

DEM violations carry fines typically $50 to $500 per offense. Repeat violations may result in license revocation for hunters. Continued nuisance feeding can trigger abatement orders.
