Rhode Island Home Solicitation Sales Cancellation Rights

Under RIGL Chapter 6-28, the Rhode Island Home Solicitation Sales Act provides consumers a statewide three-business-day right to cancel any sale of $25 or more made at the buyer's home. Sellers must provide a written notice of cancellation rights in the contract language and a separate cancellation form. The cooling-off period runs from the day after signing. Any waiver of cancellation rights is void. The Attorney General's Consumer Protection Unit enforces violations under the Deceptive Trade Practices Act. Municipalities may regulate licensing and no-knock lists locally but cannot override the state cancellation rights.

Failure to honor cancellation rights may result in contract voidance, refunds, and Attorney General enforcement with civil penalties up to $10,000 per violation.
