South Dakota Statewide Rule
South Dakota has no statewide shed permit, size limit, or setback rule. SDCL Chapter 11-4 (municipal zoning) and SDCL Chapter 11-2 (county zoning) delegate shed regulation entirely to local governments. Most South Dakota jurisdictions adopt the International Residential Code (IRC), which exempts detached one-story tool/storage sheds under 200 sq ft from the building-permit requirement under IRC Section R105.2 β but ZONING setback and height rules still apply.
