South Dakota Statewide Rule
South Dakota has NO statewide STR insurance mandate. Operators are not required by state law to carry commercial general liability, host-protection, or homeowner-policy STR rider coverage. SDCL Title 58 (Insurance) governs insurer licensing and policy form approval but does not impose lodging-host minimums. Any STR insurance requirement (typical: $500,000-$1,000,000 commercial general liability) is set by local ordinance under SDCL 9-29-1 / SDCL Chapter 11-4 zoning authority, by home-rule charter (Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Watertown) under SDCL 6-12, or by Airbnb/Vrbo platform host-protection terms.
