Vermont Wildlife Feeding Restrictions and Bear Rules

Under 10 V.S.A. section 4827a, a person shall not knowingly feed a bear or place bait, food, or other edible material, including bird feeders, in a manner that lures bears, except under limited agricultural or permitted exceptions. If feeding results in a bear being fed, the Commissioner may order the person to remove or contain the attractant. Anyone who has baited within the past 30 days is barred from taking a bear doing damage. Deer feeding is separately restricted under Fish & Wildlife rules to limit disease spread.

Feeding bears violates 10 V.S.A. section 4827a; a person who has baited within 30 days may not take a bear doing damage, and failing to remove attractants after a warden's order is enforceable.
