Vermont Statewide Short-Term Rental Registry

Vermont's statewide registry applies uniformly to any dwelling rented for fewer than 30 consecutive days. Operators must self-certify compliance with smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, and posted egress information. The registry number must appear in every online listing. The state retains authority to suspend registrations, and municipalities may impose additional local rules but cannot waive the state requirement. Annual registration renewal applies, with fees set by rule. The Department of Public Safety and Department of Health may inspect rentals upon complaint.

Operating without state registration: civil penalties up to $5,000 per violation and removal of listings from platforms upon notice.
