They may be parked on residential property but may not be occupied as a dwelling unit. Greensboro does not currently have a tiny home-specific ordinance or tiny home village zoning overlay. Shipping container homes and other alternative construction methods must demonstrate compliance with the NC Residential Code and may require additional engineering review. All tiny home construction on a foundation requires a residential building permit, and the structure must pass all standard building inspections. Setbacks follow accessory structure standards if classified as an ADU, generally 3 feet from side and rear property lines.
