Livestock is limited to agricultural-zoned land; it is prohibited in residential districts inside the Urban Growth Boundary. Osceola County impounds any livestock found running at large or straying, and owners must reclaim it within three days or it is sold at auction.
Under Osceola County Code Sec. 4-41, cows, goats, sheep, swine and hogs are prohibited in residential zoning districts; horses are limited to one per two contiguous acres. Where livestock is kept lawfully, Sec. 4-43 (modeled on FS Ch. 588) directs the county to impound any livestock found running at large or straying, notify the owner, and offer the animal for sale if not removed within three days. Bona fide agricultural operations are protected from nuisance actions by the Florida Right to Farm Act, FS 823.14. Cities set their own livestock rules within their limits.
Impounded stray livestock incurs impound and boarding fees; unclaimed animals are sold at auction after the three-day notice period per Sec. 4-43.
