Apex FAQ
Can clients visit my home business in Apex?
Yes, but in small groups. Apex UDO Sec. 4.5.5.B.1 caps group instruction (dance, music, crafts, tutoring, and similar) at 5 persons maximum. One-on-one professional services (counselor, tutor, accountant) are permitted within that limit. Retail walk-in sales, salon-style personal services, and any sale of stock-in-trade are prohibited on the premises under Sec. 4.5.5.H. Apex also requires no detectable off-premises traffic, parking congestion, noise, or other nuisance per Sec. 4.5.5.K.
Can I run a retail shop or salon out of my Apex house?
No. Apex UDO Sec. 4.5.5.H prohibits the sale of any stock-in-trade, supplies, products, or services on the premises of a home occupation. That rules out home hair salons, nail salons, barbershops, retail boutiques, and walk-in storefronts. The only narrow exception is in Sec. 4.5.5.B.3 — homemade items, foodstuffs, and crafts may be sold on-premises in the RA Rural Agricultural and RR Rural Residential districts only, not in the LD, MD, HDSF, HDMF, MH, MHP, or MORR districts that cover most Apex neighborhoods.

Does a cleaning service employee dropping by count as a client visit?
No, employees and service providers working at your home are not counted. Only paying customers visiting for business purposes count toward the 4-per-day limit.
