Chapter 22 of the Chandler City Code, added by Ordinance No. 5048 effective August 1, 2023, requires every short-term or vacation rental in the city to hold a Chandler STR license regardless of how often it is rented. Apply through the City Clerk's Office; the annual nonrefundable fee is $250 and you must also hold an Arizona Department of Revenue TPT license.

What happens if I rent without a Chandler STR license?

Chapter 22 authorizes the city to issue a written notice of violation and, if the owner fails to apply within 30 days, to assess a civil penalty of up to $1,000 per month against the owner. Continued unlicensed operation can also lead to denial or suspension of any future STR license application by the City Clerk.

Do I have to register my Glendale Airbnb with the city?

Yes. Glendale City Code Section 29.1-41, effective January 2023, requires every vacation and short-term rental owner to register the property before offering it on Airbnb, Vrbo, or any platform. You must provide owner contact info, a 24-hour emergency contact, proof of $500,000 liability insurance (or use a platform that provides equivalent coverage), and confirmation that adjacent neighbors were notified. A separate Arizona TPT license using region code GE is also required.
