Courtland FAQ

How tall does my pool fence have to be?

At least 60 inches (5 feet) above grade, measured on the side of the barrier facing away from the pool, under Sacramento County Code Section 16.36.130. The maximum vertical clearance between grade and the bottom of the barrier is 2 inches (increased to 4 inches over a solid concrete deck or when mounted on top of an above-ground pool).

What are the gate rules?

Pedestrian access gates must be self-closing with a self-latching device and must swing away from the pool. Where the latch release is less than 54 inches from grade, the release must be on the pool side at least 3 inches below the top of the gate, with no opening greater than 1/2 inch within 18 inches of the release. Other gates must be lockable and kept locked when the pool is not in use.

Folsom FAQ

Does my existing pool need to meet current barrier law?

Existing pools built before 2007/2018 are grandfathered unless you pull a remodel permit; then current law applies. At point of sale, disclosure is required.

Can my house wall be part of the pool barrier?

Yes, but doors opening to the pool area must have self-closing/self-latching hardware or alarms per HSC §115922.
