Jurupa Valley FAQ

Can I throw food scraps in the regular trash?

No. Since July 1, 2024, food waste must go in the green organics cart under SB 1383 and JVMC Ch. 6.77 — not the black trash cart.

Does my business have to recycle?

Yes if you generate 4+ cubic yards of solid waste per week (AB 341) or 2+ cubic yards (AB 1826 / SB 1383 organics). Multifamily properties with 5+ units must also subscribe. Local implementation is Ord. 2019-22.

What if I contaminate the blue or green bin?

Burrtec can leave the cart unemptied, charge a contamination fee, and Code Enforcement can issue citations under JVMC §6.77.140.

Temecula FAQ

What goes in the green cart?

Food scraps (all kinds), food-soiled paper, and yard trimmings. NO plastic bags, NO pet waste, NO diapers. Empty food directly or use paper bags. Place inside cart, lid closed.

Are pizza boxes recyclable or compostable?

Greasy pizza boxes go in the GREEN organics cart (food-soiled paper). Clean, ungreased cardboard goes in the BLUE recycling cart, flattened.

What if I don't separate organics?

SB 1383 is mandatory statewide. Non-compliance can result in cart tagging, education visits, and ultimately state-imposed fines starting at $50/day. CR&R works with non-compliant accounts before escalating.
