Flood Zones: Menasha vs Neenah

The City of Menasha regulates floodplain development through Chapter 13-3 (Floodplain Zoning) of Title 13 of the Menasha Municipal Code, adopted under Wis. Stat. Sec. 87.30 and conforming to Wis. Admin. Code Chapter NR 116 and 44 CFR 59-72. Section 13-3 establishes a Floodway District (13-3.C), Flood Fringe District (13-3.D), and General Floodplain District (13-3.E), with general provisions in 13-3.B and administration in 13-3.G. Lake Winnebago and the Fox River are the primary flood sources, and FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps for Winnebago and Calumet Counties define the Special Flood Hazard Areas regulated by the city.

The City of Neenah participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and regulates floodplain development in conformance with Wis. Stat. Sec. 87.30 and Wisconsin Administrative Code Chapter NR 116, plus 44 CFR Parts 59-72. Lake Winnebago and the Fox River are the principal flood sources through the city. Development in mapped Special Flood Hazard Areas requires zoning approval before any building permit is issued, new residential structures are prohibited in the regulatory floodway, and structures in the flood fringe must have the lowest floor of habitable space elevated to the flood protection elevation.
