Recreational drones are governed by FAA Part 107 and PBC Park Rules. Drones are prohibited in PBC parks, beaches, and within 5 miles of PBI (Class C airspace) and BCT Boca Raton (Class D) without ATC clearance.
FAA Part 107 and recreational rules (FAA Reauthorization Act ยง349) require drone registration ($5/3 years for drones over 250g) and TRUST exam completion. PBC Code ยง17-3 prohibits drone takeoff/landing in county parks and beaches without permit. Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) has Class C airspace requiring LAANC authorization within 5 nautical miles up to designated altitudes; Boca Raton Airport (BCT) is Class D requiring ATC contact. State law FL ยง934.50 prohibits drone surveillance over private property without consent. Sea turtle nesting areas (March-October) are off-limits.
